On Thursday, former President Donald Trump told Fox News that he would “certainly” consider making Florida Governor Ron DeSantis his running mate in 2024 which he is “100 percent” thinking of another bid.
Trump described DeSantis as a friend of his and a “great guy.” Trump also mentioned, “I endorsed Ron and after I endorsed him, he took off like a rocket ship. He’s done a great job as governor.” DeSantis entered the national spotlight after being one of few governors to go against the COVID lockdowns. In an interview with Tucker Carlson on April 19th, DeSantis stated that he noticed that a few weeks into the outbreak, the restrictions seemed to do nothing to control the spread and that people were blindly following Fauci. DeSantis also stated that after seeing more data he realized that the focus of protection should be on the elderly population.
Donald Trump stated that his main policies to focus on in a second term would include the second amendment, the border, tax increases and the energy industry. Donald Trump was the most popular possible candidate in this year’s CPAC straw poll with Ron DeSantis finishing in at second place in the poll. Trump previously ran with Mike Pence on his ticket in 2016 and 2020.
