GOP congressmen are pushing the Biden Administration to address the border crisis, as increasing costs associated with the influx of migrants at the Southern border were “not budgeted or appropriated for.”
Representatives Jason Smith and John Katko are pushing the White House for answers to the complicated border issue. The congressmen wrote a letter to the Office of Management and Budget addressing the massive expenses being created by the border situation. They were also alarmed by the redirection of DHS and HHS funding, as they are the primary agencies tasked with taking care of the migrants. “Many of these adjusted costs were not budgeted or appropriated for, nor were they approved by Congress,” they wrote.
“Additionally, these costs were not accounted for in the most recent budget outline submitted by the Biden Administration. What is even more disconcerting is the budget outline for the upcoming fiscal year calls for a freeze in funding for DHS.” The concern here is a question of careless and unavailing spending, the congressmen fear the expenses that will be settled by the American people and whether they’ll be worth it. Some money has also been sent to countries south of our border in an effort to control the flow before it rushes to the United States.
The congressmen are curious about just how much it was that was sent to those countries. “For months, President Biden and his Administration have tried to downplay the disaster while spending hundreds of millions on the response. Congress and the American people need to know what is being spent, where, and what more will be requested by the Administration as it contends with a crisis of its own creation,” Smith said.
