Kentucky Senator Rand Paul tells Dr. Fauci double masking after vaccinating is “just theatre”

Rand Paul - United States

During a heated exchange between Kentucky Senator Rand Paul (R) and Dr. Anthony Fauci on Thursday, the two clashed over the validity of wearing double masks and whether or not it was “just theater.”

The clash originally started when Rand Paul questioned Dr. Fauci about why people who have recovered from the virus and or have received the vaccination still are required to wear masks. Rand Paul—a trained medical professional—told Dr. Fauci, “You want people to wear a mask for another couple of years.” He continued, saying, “You’ve been vaccinated and you parade around in two masks for show. You can’t get it again, there’s virtually zero percent chance you’re getting it.” Fauci responded, “Let me just state for the record that masks are not theater — masks are protective.”

Rand Paul continued to press on and even gave his suggestion as to how Dr. Fauci could get rid of any vaccine hesitation, stating, “You want to get rid of vaccine hesitancy? Tell them they can quit wearing their mask after they get a vaccine, instead of telling them the nanny state’s going to be there for three more years and you’ve got to wear a mask forever. People don’t want to hear it and there’s no science behind it.”

This continued but Senator Paul never seemed to get the answer he was looking for. Paul later appeared on Tucker Carlson’s show on Fox News where he continued making his argument about Fauci and the government’s mask/vaccine policy. “If they want to dictate mine and your behavior, then the burden is on them to present the evidence.” He went on to tell Tucker Carlson that Dr. Facui was lying to the American people.

Rand Paul’s argument, it seems, is that he thinks Fauci’s true fear is that if people who have received the vaccine stopped wearing masks, then the other half of the population would soon follow suit. Thus, it’s likely that Dr. Fauci– in this situation– prioritizes the security and safety of the people at the expense of individual liberty. Meanwhile, Rand Paul seems to prioritize freedom and liberty. He expands upon this sentiment, saying, “I shouldn’t have to prove that I want to be free, and I want to be left alone, and I want to breathe the air. They need to show us the proof.”

Many conservative and libertarian individuals have been supportive of Senator Rand Paul’s attempts to preserve the individual’s right to choose and his efforts have these questions answered on the behalf of the American people. Meanwhile, many more left-leaning Americans have been critical of Senator Paul’s questioning of Dr. Fauci. Many of them feel as if the responsibility of this virus is every single American’s, suggesting that it’s necessary for the government to tell its citizens what to do in this time of struggle.

On the other hand, conservatives and libertarians do not share this sentiment, claiming that the government does not know what is best for each and every individual; Many of them argue that a government does not know or understand the needs and struggles of each individual person, only their families do. Thus, while left-leaning American support the government deciding whether or not each person should wear a mask, conservatives and libertarians support the individuals and their families deciding for them.
