Donald Trump Jr. has reacted to protests on Wednesday at the U.S. Capitol by condemning violence.
“This is wrong and not who we are,” Donald Trump Jr. posted on Twitter. ”Be peaceful and use your 1st Amendment rights, but don’t start acting like the other side. We have a country to save and this doesn’t help anyone.”
Donald Trump Jr.’s announced his message as soon as protesters infiltrated the Capitol, forcing a building lockdown. Vice President Pence and members of Congress reportedly were evacuated.
The chaos has caused a major lockdown of a number of federal buildings, including the Capitol, where lawmakers were evacuated through the tunnels.
Supporters of President Donald Trump earlier in the day gathered to hear the commander in chief speak near the White House. “You have to get your people to fight and if they don’t fight we have to primary the hell out of the ones that don’t fight,” the president said. “We’re going to let you know who they are.”
President Trump also took to Twitter, asking people to remain ”peaceful.”
”I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence! Remember, WE are the Party of Law & Order – respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue. Thank you!” President Donald Trump tweeted.
