Washington D.C. Committee Recommends Removing, Relocation, or Contextualizing National Monuments like the Washington Monument and Jefferson Memorial

A committee formed by the major of Washington D.C. is recommending that the names of schools and government buildings be changed and that several federal monuments need to be removed, relocated or contextualized in order to fight racism and white supremacy.

A few of the monuments listed to be removed are the

  2. Benjamin Franklin Statute
  3. Andrew Jackson Statue
  4. Jefferson Memorial
  5. George Mason Memorial
  6. Newlands Memorial Fountain
  7. Albert Pike Statute
  8. Washington Monument, George Washington Statute

Other historical figures who have memorials named after them to be changed or removed mentioned were Francis Scott Key, William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, Zachary Taylor, Woodrow Wilson, and Alexander Graham Bell.
